The Songkran Festival is one of the biggest traditional festivals in Thailand and usually takes place during the Thai New Year, which runs from April 13 to 15. Originating in Buddhist tradition, the festival symbolizes washing away the SINS and misfortunes of the year and purifying the mind to usher in the New Year.
During the Water-sprinkling Festival, people splash water on each other and use water guns, buckets, hoses and other appliances to express celebration and good wishes. The festival is particularly popular in Thailand and attracts a large number of foreign tourists.
